Since opening offices in Silicon Valley in 2014, German-headquartered Utimaco continues to rapidly expand into the U.S. market with 40 percent year-over-year company growth in 2015, and momentum across multiple industries. An estimated 35 percent of the top 20 semiconductor companies rely on the Utimaco Hardware Security Module (HSM) to build security into the core of their technology during manufacturing. Now based in Campbell, California, the U.S. headquarters and sales team is scaling to meet increasing customer demand for hardware-grade security. In the face of increased connectivity and risk for data breaches, the Utimaco HSM is known for its unbreakable foundation that serves as a root of trust in connected industries including automotive, manufacturing, payments and smart energy.
“Customer demand is exploding across the U.S. and Europe, driven by international data transmission and increased industrial connectivity,” said Malte Pollmann, CEO of Utimaco. “Growing our U.S. team to keep up with that demand is a welcome expansion, as is adding the expertise of Steve Munford. Steve’s track record of guiding companies through accelerated growth is the perfect complement to our strategic priorities as we move quickly into 2016.”
Serving as the CEO of Sophos for more than six years, Munford led the company through a period of dramatic growth with more than tripled bookings. Prior to his role as CEO, Munford served as the president of Sophos for North America and Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company and its senior management team. Previously, Munford was president of ActiveState, before its acquisition by Sophos in 2003. Under his leadership, ActiveState established itself as a global leader in email security software. Munford serves on the board of companies including: Absolute Software, Carbonite and Teradici.
“The power of hardware security as gatekeeper of privacy and sensitive enterprise data has become the focal point as organizations do business,” said Steve Munford. “I have tremendous respect for Utimaco’s product and mission and I look forward to working closely with the board to make ambitious goals a reality.”
Utimaco will be exhibiting at booth #S322 at RSA, February 29-March 4, 2016 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. To schedule a meeting, please contact: utimaco@mslgroup.com.
